CITA RSS Aggregator version 1.9
Version 1.9 provides the following improvements over version 1.8:
- In previous versions of the Aggregator we disabled the minimise button in the main window so you could not stop the Aggregator updating by mistake (to avoid confusing people, the Aggregator does not look for feed updates while the main window is open). In this version we give you the option to allow the main window to minimise (Click Tools, Options and check 'Allow the main window to minimise'). When the main window is minimised, the Aggregator's tray icon changes to remind you it is not updating.
- The Aggregator's tray icon now shows different tooltips to explain what it is doing. Specifically, when the Aggregator is displaying the inactive icon, the new tooltip allows you to find out why. Simply hover your mouse over icon to read the tooltip.
- The Aggregator provides a button in its toolbar that allows you to inhibit pop-up windows. You can now override the pop-up blocker temporarily by holding down your Control (Ctrl) key while clicking a link in the Aggregator's browser pane.
- We have enhanced the Aggregator's Universal Subscription Mechanism to cope with more variations of the USM standard. That means you are more likely to be able to automatically subscribe to a new feed by clicking its icon on the web.
- We have also corrected the following bugs:
- You were able to crash the Aggregator if you closed the main window having asked the Aggregator to update all feeds. That is no longer possible.
- It was possible for the Aggregator to crash if a feed provided incorrectly formatted image information. Now the Aggregator ignores an incorrectly formatted image so it does not appear in the feed summary, but the feed is still usable.
- We have increased the resiliance of the Aggregator when displaying web pages so that it no longer crashes when trying to display badly-formed links provided in feeds. It now displays an error message instead.
- The Aggregator used to become confused about a feed's status if the feed had a problem and subsequently returned a special response code indicating it had not changed since the previous request.
- If a feed added a trailing space in its title, the Aggregator was unable to match alert windows to that feed's details. That problem has been corrected.
