CITA RSS Aggregator version 2.2
Version 2.2 provides the following improvements over version 2.1:
- You can now categorise your channels. The main Aggregator window has a new 'Categories' tab. This shows a three-level tree. The top level is the category you have assigned, the next level is the channel (or feed) and the final level is the channel items. The Aggregator automatically maintains a status against each category so, if you use a large number of channels, you can keep track of them easily. We provide the following new features to support channel categories:
- The Aggregator 'remembers' whether you last used the normal 'News' tab or the new 'Categories' tab. When you open the main window, this tab is re-opened automatically. This means you can decide which of the tabs you prefer to use and the Aggregator will continue to show it to you by default. If you have only a few feeds, you can continue to use the 'News' tab without using categories.
- Right clicking a feed gives you a new 'Change category' option. If you choose this option you can either select an existing category or assign a new one.
- Right clicking a category gives you a new 'Rename' option. If you choose this option you can either select an existing category (to merge the two categories) or assign a new one.
- To start with, all channels are shown as 'Uncategorised' in the 'Categories' tab.
- If you add a new channel, you'll see a new option to either assign it to an existing category or create a new one.
- When you export your channels, you are now asked if you want to include categories in your output file
- When you import channels, the Aggregator' automatically detects if a category has been assigned to a channel and, if it has, it assigns that category to the imported channel.
- We now automatically remove potentially malicious elements from feeds. We've not heard of anyone trying to deliver malicious programming this way, but it's probably just a matter of time. Any suspicious stuff is replaced by a message like "Suspicious ... removed by the Aggregator". If you see this message it doesn't necessarily mean that the channel provider is doing anything nasty - but it might. There is an option to switch off this checking in the Aggregator settings if you need to.
- We have also fixed the following problems:
- Setting a proxy server no longer causes crashes in certain situations.
- When adding a new channel, the Aggregator now defaults to using the proxy server if one has been specified.
- The Aggregator no longer rejects hierarchical OPML files when importing channels.
- The universal subscription utility no longer generates garbled feed addresses if you do not close one subscription window before opening another.
