Integration of the CITA RSS Aggregator with FireFox 2
Firefox is a widely-used browser and the main competitor to Microsoft's Internet Explorer. FireFox 2 introduces a new feature that allows FireFox to integrate with third party Aggregators.
If FireFox detects the presence of a feed it displays a feed logo next to the address bar like this:
Firefox can be configured so that when you click this logo, the feed is automatically added to a third party aggregator.
The CITA RSS Aggregator comes with a subscription utility that allows you to add feeds to the Aggregator or a range of alternate aggregators.
Follow these instructions to integrate the new version of the subscription utility with FireFox 2.
- Use FireFox to navigate to a page containing an RSS Feed. For example: www.SeeITA.com/RSSA.
- Click the orange feed icon to the right of the address bar. You will see the feed displayed in the FireFox internal feed reader.
- Use the drop down next to "Subscribe to this feed using" at the top of the page to select option "Choose application...".
- Select RSSSubscribe.exe in the RSS Aggregator program directory (by default, C:\Program Files\CITA\RSS Aggregator) and click 'Open'.
- Make sure option 'Always use to subscribe to feeds' is checked.
- Click 'Subscribe now'.
- The subscription utility will offer to subscribe you to the feed you selected. Click 'Exit' if you don't want to subscribe.
- From now on, the subscription utility will run automatically whenever you click the FireFox feed logo.
