CITA RSS Aggregator version 1.4
Version 1.4 provided the following improvements over version 1.3:
- The Aggregator is now supplied with a 'Builder' utility that allows you to build your own RSS feed and load it to your web site. For more details run the Builder and press F1 to see extensive help text including a 'Getting started' entry.
- The Aggregator now supports all the encoding schemes supported by the Microsoft XML parser. Previously, if you loaded a page created using anything but UTF-8 encoding special characters (such as the GB £ sign) could have been: shown incorrectly; shown as a question mark; or omitted altogether.
- Previous versions of the Aggregator allowed you to access RSS feeds secured by user ids and passwords implemented using the standard HTML access control scheme. Version 1.4 adds support for session-based access control. This scheme shows you a site-specific user id and password entry page and uses cookies to store authentication data that allows you to see subsequent pages once you have correctly entered a user id and password. The Aggregator can detect the user id and password page and complete it for you using data you provide.
- Right-clicking a channel in the main screen shows a new 'Open feed page' option that allows you to see the raw XML feed page for the channel.
- If version 0.9x or 2.0 feeds contain copyright information it is shown in the heading of the channel display.
- The Aggregator now obeys any height and width information provided for the channel image.
- The Aggregator now shows channel image captions containing embedded spaces correctly.
- The Aggregator now provides better support for HTML characters embedded in channel titles and descriptions. Although the RSS standards do not provide for HTML embedded in channel titles and descriptions, that has not prevented some RSS publishers from doing so.
