This document demonstrates many of the features of the Local Information System:
-
You can write as much, or as little, as you need in any database item. In many cases, you will use the item to point to a web page that contains the information; that way the originators will maintain the data for you.
-
You can add search terms to items allowing people to find items using relevant key words even if those words do not appear in the item. For example, you can find this page by keying D, E, M and O as a search term.
-
At the foot of the page you will see sample web links. You can add as many links as you want to a page. You can also:
-
specify the order in which links are shown
-
add descriptive detail to each link
-
At the foot of the page you can also see the various ways we can link to a document. The site can link to any kind of document, but the most common are word processed documents, PDFs and spreadsheets.
-
You can format items in any way you want. For example:
-
Bold text
-
Emphasised text
-
Coloured text
-
You can create links to individual documents in the database. For example, this link takes you to the document that introduces the demonstration database.
-
You can create links that execute searches in the database. For example, this link executes a search for "family".
You can read more about the system's search features by clicking the Help button in the left hand pane.
Below there are a set of links attached to this item. The system supports web links and document links (links to documents held in folders on the server). We also provide a document library that can store documents securely. Documents in the library are retrieved using web links.
